Parish Manager

Mission Statement

The mission of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church is to proclaim and teach the gospel in accordance with the Orthodox Faith; sanctify the faithful through God's grace in worship, the Divine Liturgy, and other sacraments; enhance parishioners' spiritual life; and add to the faithful by receiving individuals into the Church through instruction, baptism, and/or chrismation.

Position: Parish Manager
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
General Classification: Hourly, Part time
Schedule: 20+ hours per week. 
Pay: $25.00 per hour 

Duties and Responsibilities

General Overview: The Parish Manager will primarily oversee the operational, administrative, and financial needs of the Church. The Parish Manager will collaborate with clergy, volunteers, contractors, committee leads, and the parish council to maintain facilities, organize events, festivals and track finances. This position will be the primary point of contact for all non-ecclesiastical parish matters, outside vendors, and local government agencies. To execute these responsibilities, the Parish Manager will be responsible for creating and forwarding documents, working with contractors, and ensuring committees are on track with major events (e.g. Greek Festival). The Parish Manager will need to be a highly motivated and well-organized person who can work alone or collaborate with others. They will need to be proficient with Microsoft Office software, Google Drive, possess good quantitative reasoning skills, and verbal communication. The Parish Manager must be able to agree to a statement of faith in compliance with the Orthodox Church. The Parish Manager will be given necessary and adequate training for required tasks.

Administrative

  • Provide administrative support to parish clergy, council, and committees
  • Liaise with the Metropolis for filing of ecclesiastical documents
  • Answer telephone and direct inquiries as appropriate
  • Receive and respond to post mail and deliveries
  • Respond to email inquiries in a timely manner and forward as appropriate
  • Maintain online parish directory, mailing lists, and stewardship database
  • Assist with creating and forwarding documents for communication
  • Assist with updating parish website, social media, and bulletins
  • Property and Asset Management (To be Performed in Conjunction with Parish Council)
  • Manage Request for Proposals (RFP) for outside vendors and services
  • Maintain property and equipment inventory database
  • Oversee preventive property maintenance, repairs, landscaping, and renovation projects
  • Oversee contract management of utility and system equipment maintenance
  • Manage all phases of Church Hall rentals and event scheduling in collaboration with clergy calendar
  • Implement and maintain an effective emergency, safety, and security management plan and contacts 

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in an office envirnemnt or an equivalent combination of educational and professional experience
  • Working knowledge of, or ability to learn: Microsoft Suite, MailChimp, Google Drive, Adobe, social media, and basic financial software
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral) for effective collaboration
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
  • Effective organizational, project management, and multi-tasking skills 
  • Ability to work independently without supervision
  • Able to make a statement of faith in line with our Church’s teachings and values

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with non-profit organizations   
  • Experience with financial software and finance management (e.g. payroll, auditing, accounting)
  • Orthodox Christian background

Additional Requirements

  • Successful completion of background check
  • Must sign Non-Disclosure Agreement and Code of Conduct
  • Successful completion of Metropolis employment requirements including training and background checks within one year of hire
  • Valid Washington State driver's license.
  • Applicants who are offered employment with the Church are required to provide proof of identity and authorization to work in the United States within three days of date of hire, as required by the 1986 Federal Immigration Reform and Control Act.
