Middle School Theater Arts Teacher
Reports to: Director of Fine Arts
Status: Salaried/Exempt
Start Date: August 3, 2026
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm; additional time as needed for after-school rehearsals and performances, as well as meetings and events, including weekly Tuesday meetings until 5:00 PM.
Responsibilities:
- Lead daily theater arts classes for middle school students, covering theatre foundations, one-act plays, and additional theatre enrichment classes. Co-teach the 6th grade musical with the MS music teacher.
- Direct and manage middle school theatrical productions, including play selection, casting, and rehearsals. Maintain costumes, sets, and props. Connect with AV contractors for large-scale productions.
- Expand the reach and impact of the existing drama program and performance opportunities.
- Partner with grade-level teachers and the Fine Arts department for integrated performances.
- Manage assigned carpool and lunchroom supervision duties with a positive attitude. May mentor a grade-level advisory group.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, guardians, and community stakeholders regarding productions and student progress.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in theater, performing arts, or education (Master’s degree preferred).
- Several years of experience teaching theater or directing productions for middle-school aged students.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Proficiency in stagecraft, including basic knowledge of lighting boards, sound systems, and set design.
- A passion for the arts and education, with the ability to inspire a diverse student body.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds (e.g., moving props or set pieces).
