Parish Mission Mobilization Coordinator

We’re excited to fill the role of Parish Mission Mobilization Coordinator. This position will represent the Orthodox Christian Mission Center in building and strengthening relationships between the Mission Center and Orthodox parishes, clergy, and faithful. The role will support the cultivation of mission-centered communities in the U.S. and encourage parishes to participate actively in the Church’s call to go to all nations and bring the good news of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

The coordinator will collaborate closely with parishes and parish priests to help build an awareness of our common calling as Orthodox Christians to share Christ’s message.  The coordinator will focus on recruiting, developing, and supporting Local Parish Ambassadors, helping them to advocate for the parishes’ commitment to fulfilling the Great Commission. They will work in concert with coordinators for our Events and Communications teams to ensure consistent and pastorally appropriate engagement across parish communities.

The Parish Mission Mobilization Coordinator is responsible for parish-based mission education, and Ambassador oversight, while serving as a relational bridge between the Mission Center and Orthodox parish life. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Cultivate relationships with clergy, parish councils, Parish Ambassadors, and lay leaders to encourage parish participation in the broader mission of the Church. Serving as the primary liaison between the Mission Center and parish constituencies.
• Encourage and support parishes in adopting a sustained mission mindset, helping parish communities understand the importance of ‘Going to All Nations’ while building vibrant eucharistic communities. Identify parishes not currently engaged and develop long-term cultivation strategies rooted in Orthodox stewardship and mission theology.
• Support the recruitment, coordination, and formation of volunteers to mobilize and act within local Orthodox communities. Oversee the Parish Ambassador Program, including recruitment, training, development, and ongoing support, enabling Ambassadors to deepen a parish communities’ commitment to the idea of building the Church of Christ throughout the world.
• Work actively with the missionary recruiting assistant director to empower local community volunteers to help offer vocational service opportunities throughout the world.
• Assist in the design, development, and implementation of age‑appropriate Orthodox teaching curricula that introduce and nurture awareness of vocational service in the life of the Church, including materials for church school, Vacation Bible School, youth ministries, and Orthodox youth camps, in collaboration with clergy and parish educators.
• Develop and coordinate Annual Mission Sunday educational materials; oversee related parish appeals such as the Lenten coinbox program.
• Assist with planning and execution of events connected to parish engagement, including clergy gatherings, parish-based programs, and educational opportunities.
• Travel regionally, potentially up to 30%, to support in-person parish engagement.
• Work effectively in a remote environment while remaining relationally engaged with clergy, parishes, and ambassadors.
• Potentially coordinates the activities and assignments of other parish engagement coordinators.
• Perform other duties as assigned in service of the organization’s mission.

Our future Parish Mission Mobilization Coordinator will be a great communicator with an ability to clearly and convincingly articulate the Mission Center’s work. Whether you’re writing, presenting, or just having one-on-one conversations, you’re setting the tone to establish deep relationships with parish leaders. The coordinator will also collaborate successfully with our staff and partners.

Our Coordinator does not have to be based in St. Augustine, Florida. There will be a need to travel regionally within their assigned area. The Parish Mission Mobilization Coordinator is an Orthodox Christian with an active membership in a jurisdiction of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred, ideally in theology, communications, ministry, development, or a related field; equivalent parish or ministry experience considered.
• Strong oral communication skills with the ability to speak comfortably in parish and ecclesial settings.
• Demonstrated experience with fundraising or stewardship education within a church or ministry context.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Deep appreciation for Orthodox ecclesiology, parish life, and the role of clergy and laity in shared ministry.
• Minimum three years of related experience, preferably in Orthodox parish ministry, stewardship, development, or faith‑based outreach.

• Ability to work respectfully and collaboratively with clergy, parish leadership, volunteers, and staff.
• Strong organizational and administrative skills, with experience supporting volunteer-led ministry.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with donor management systems such as Raiser’s Edge a plus.
• Pastoral sensitivity, professional demeanor, and the ability to represent the organization faithfully within parish communities.
