Learning Specialist: 4th-8th Grade

Reports to: Director of Learning Support             
Status: Salaried/Exempt               
Start Date: August 3, 2026
Work Schedule: 10-month employee, Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM; additional time as needed for after-school meetings and events, which typically includes staying until 5:00 PM on Tuesdays.

Responsibilities:

  • Execute current learning support systems for students in Grades 4-8, and collaborate with the Director of Learning Support and department colleagues on strategic improvements to school-wide support approaches
  • Provide targeted, scheduled in-class support (push-in model) for students in Grades 4-8, collaborating directly with classroom teachers to co-teach strategies and facilitate access to the curriculum within the general education setting
  • Work closely with the Director of Learning Support to ensure curriculum alignment and smooth transitions between grade levels in grades 4-8 for students who receive extra support
  • Work closely with counselors and actively participate on the Student Support Team for Grades 4-8
  • Participate in grade-level team meetings to discuss, analyze, and monitor the progress of students who demonstrate a concerning pattern of performance
  • Provide dedicated coaching, resources, and professional development to faculty teaching Grades 4-8 to enhance their inclusive instructional practices and ability to meet the needs of all learners
  • Help the Director of Learning Support with testing accommodations for identified students in Grades 4-8 during standardized testing (e.g., ERBs)
  • Help facilitate and organize make-up work and academic continuity for students in Grades 4-8 who experience extended absences due to illness or other approved reasons, coordinating communication between teachers and families
  • Design, deliver, and monitor interventions focused on developing students' executive functioning skills (e.g., organization, planning, time management) both individually and in small groups
  • Recommend and implement appropriate supports in the classroom
  • Maintain and share a current list of external resources, including academic tutors, with families
  • Perform other duties as needed

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with special education focus; Master’s degree preferred 
  • Experience leading and facilitating a learning support or special education program
  • Extensive knowledge of learning differences, including dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and attention-deficit-hyperactivity disorder
  • Experience interpreting and applying the results of neuropsychological and psycho-educational assessments
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development, reading and math skill development, and response to intervention
