FOCUS Detroit - Center Director

The Fellowship of Orthodox Christians United to Serve (FOCUS) North America is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of full time Center Director for its FOCUS Detroit ministry location.
The work of FOCUS Detroit occurs at several locations in Detroit as outlined below. The Center Director is responsible for a vibrant ministry to underprivileged and unhoused individuals and families of the community. They must possess cultural and socioeconomic sensitivity, as well as an understanding of the history, culture, and complexities of Detroit.
FOCUS Detroit Ministry Offerings:
- The Nest (Wednesdays / 9:30 am – 12:30 pm):
- A supportive program for parents with children from birth to age four at Oasis of Hope Christian Church (933 W. 7 Mile Detroit). Weekly sessions address topics such as postpartum mental health, parenting skills, child development, and family well-being. Participants also receive mentorship and access to essential resources, including diapers, wipes, formula, and children's clothing.
- Coffee and Connections (Fridays / 7:30 am – 10:00 am):
- A welcoming community café at Oasis of Hope Christian Church (933 W. 7 Mile Detroit)that provides free coffee and baked goods while creating opportunities for neighbors and community members to build relationships, access support, and reduce social isolation.
- Community Meal, Food Pantry, and Clothing Closet (1st and 3rd Saturdays / 10 am – 2 pm):
- In partnership with Oasis of Hope Church, FOCUS Detroit offers hot takeout meals, as well as access to a food pantry and clothing closet, helping individuals and families meet basic needs with dignity and care.
- School-Based Outreach Program (Tuesdays (during the school year) / 3 pm – 5 pm):

Weekly craft activity and free dinner for students and staff at Commonwealth Community Development Academy (13477 Eureka St.), fostering connection, creativity, and a sense of community.

The Center Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the local ministry including food and clothing distribution, volunteer coordination, Advisory Committee management, and partnerships with other local organizations. The Center Director will also work with the FOCUS North America Development Office to solicit donations and pursue grants to support and grow the ministry.
The position reports to the Director of Operations.
As an affiliated ministry of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America, qualified candidates should have knowledge of and a willingness to work within the framework of the Orthodox Church. The ideal candidate will also possess the following experience and/or skill sets:
- Non-profit leadership experience;
- Experience managing a budget;
- Excellent oral and written communication skills;
- A passion for service;
- A willingness and ability to solicit funds on behalf of the local ministry;
- An ability to work directly with those served by the ministry on a daily basis
- An ability to work cross jurisdictionally with local Orthodox parishes to engage volunteers to serve at the center
FOCUS has a team of support staff who work with its Center Directors in the above efforts including marketing and social media communications, management of local center financial information, and overall clarity of work and mission. A Bachelor's degree in a related field is highly preferred.
