Position Summary

The Director of Creative Services leads Creative Services of the National Ministries as a strategic shared-services partner to the Director of National Ministries and the National Ministry directors. The Director provides brand leadership, creative direction, messaging support, project oversight, contractor and vendor management, and hands-on creative support when appropriate. The role exists to help National Ministries communicate its mission, resources, programs, and impact with clarity, consistency, quality, and pastoral sensitivity.

This position is intentionally scoped to National Ministries. It supports ministry-specific branding, messaging, campaigns, publications, digital content, presentations, reports, events, and ministry resources, while partnering appropriately with the Communications and Finance departments and other internal stakeholders.

Mission Alignment

This role supports the mission of National Ministries to equip ministry leaders and workers for building up the Body of Christ by providing professional, consistent, mission-aligned creative services and communications support across the National Ministries portfolio.

Essential Responsibilities

1. Brand Strategy & Creative Leadership

  • Lead and strengthen the visual identity, brand consistency, and creative standards of National Ministries.
  • Serve as a strategic partner to the Director of National Ministries on branding, messaging, institutional storytelling, campaigns, and ministry impact communications.
  • Provide creative direction for publications, digital content, presentations, social media assets, events, educational resources, and ministry materials.
  • Develop and maintain practical templates, design standards, and style guidance that help ministry teams communicate clearly and consistently.
  • Ensure National Ministries materials align with appropriate Archdiocesan standards while remaining responsive to ministry-specific needs.

2. Creative Services Operations

  • Lead Creative Services of the National Ministries as a shared-services function supporting ministry directors and project owners.
  • Provide hands-on creative support when appropriate while also leading contractors, consultants, vendors, and project teams.
  • Coordinate project intake, prioritization, scheduling, creative resourcing, production, review, and delivery.
  • Help ministry directors translate goals into creative briefs, production plans, campaign assets, publications, presentations, and digital materials.
  • Establish clear workflows and expectations that improve timeliness, quality, accountability, and service to ministry teams.

3. Contractor, Vendor & Digital Resource Management

  • Identify, source, recommend, and manage contractors, consultants, vendors, designers, writers, video producers, photographers, web resources, and other creative specialists as needed.
  • Develop scopes of work, timelines, deliverables, quality expectations, and project budgets for outside creative resources.
  • Monitor contractor and vendor performance for quality, responsiveness, timeliness, cost-effectiveness, and alignment with National Ministries priorities.
  • Manage web content and website support contractors assigned to Creative Services, with technical coordination and dotted-line collaboration with Internet Ministries and Jamil Samara as appropriate.
  • Maintain flexibility to supervise or coordinate employees, contractors, consultants, vendors, or project-specific teams as staffing needs evolve.

4. Budget Stewardship & Performance Reporting

  • Partner with Finance and National Ministries leadership on creative-services budgeting, forecasting, expense tracking, and reporting.
  • Review project budgets, contractor costs, invoices, and completed deliverables before approval and processing by Finance.
  • Help ministry directors estimate creative service needs, project costs, resource requirements, and production timelines.
  • Define success measures and key performance indicators for campaigns, communications initiatives, publications, events, and ministry projects.
  • Work with digital, web, analytics, and ministry resources to obtain performance data, review results, and communicate recommendations to leadership.

5. National Ministry Digital Media, Communications, & Creative Support

  • Support and coordinate the development, design, and production of the National Ministries Annual Report in collaboration with ministry directors and leadership.
  • Serve as steward of the National Ministries Digital Asset Management system, ensuring assets are organized, accessible, properly maintained, and aligned with approved standards.
  • Support special events, campaigns, ministry launches, parish-facing resources, and leadership communications through appropriate creative direction and production coordination.
  • Help National Ministries communicate accomplishments, resources, outcomes, and priorities through clear, attractive, and mission-centered materials.
  • Build trust with ministry leaders by providing practical creative guidance, clear communication, and reliable project follow-through.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree, professional certification, specialized training, or equivalent professional experience in graphic design, communications, marketing, visual communications, digital media, multimedia production, or a related field.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, demonstrated achievement, portfolio strength, leadership experience, and progressively responsible professional experience will be considered.

Experience

  • Seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in creative services, brand strategy, visual communications, marketing communications, digital media, agency operations, or related fields preferred.
  • Prior experience in a creative agency strongly desired.
  • Experience leading creative projects across multiple mediums, managing contractors or vendors, developing brand standards, and delivering high-quality creative work across multiple formats.
  • Demonstrated ability to move between creative strategy, hands-on execution, project management, contractor oversight, and stakeholder communication.
  • Experience supporting nonprofit, faith-based, educational, ministry, or mission-driven organizations preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Creative Leadership: Ability to guide brand identity, creative direction, visual quality, and messaging within the National Ministries context.
  • Project & Operations Management: Ability to manage intake, prioritization, workflow, schedules, deliverables, and multiple concurrent creative projects.
  • Contractor & Vendor Management: Ability to source, brief, coordinate, and evaluate contractors, consultants, vendors, and project teams.
  • Hands-On Creative Capability: Ability to provide direct creative support when appropriate and evaluate the quality of design, multimedia, and communications work.
  • Financial Stewardship: Ability to monitor project budgets, contractor costs, invoices, and creative resource utilization in partnership with Finance.
  • Performance Reporting: Ability to define success measures, review results, coordinate reporting data, and translate insights into practical recommendations.
  • Relationship Management: Ability to work effectively with clergy, executives, ministry directors, staff, contractors, vendors, Finance, Communications, and Internet Ministries.

Reporting Relationship & Key Partners

  • Reports to the Director of National Ministries.
  • Serves as a strategic shared-services partner to National Ministry directors and project owners.
  • Works closely and as appropriate with Archdiocesan Communications and Finance, grant and project leads, vendors, consultants, and other internal stakeholders.
  • May supervise or coordinate employees, contractors, consultants, vendors, web resources, designers, multimedia specialists, project managers, and other creative professionals assigned to Creative Services projects.
  • Web content and website support contractors assigned to Creative Services have a solid-line relationship to the Director of Creative Services and dotted-line technical coordination with the Director of Internet Ministries.
