The Fellowship of Orthodox Christians United to Serve (FOCUS) North America is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of full time Center Director for its FOCUS Houston ministry location.

FOCUS Houston serves mothers and young children in the Sharpstown area of Houston. The Center Director is responsible for overseeing and growing a vibrant outreach ministry that serves mothers and children from birth through age five. FOCUS Houston provides a welcoming and hospitable environment where families can experience Christ’s love through meaningful relationships, compassionate support, and the provision of tangible resources (diapers, wipes, clothing, etc). This position generally requires an on-site presence Monday through Friday to support ministry programming, client services, office operations, donor engagement, and volunteer activities. Some administrative responsibilities may be completed remotely when no on-site programming is scheduled.

The position reports to the Director of Operations. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and interpersonal skills, a heart for serving vulnerable families, and a commitment to the mission and values of FOCUS North America. 

A Bachelor's degree in a related field is required. Masters of Social work or commensurate experience preferred. Spanish speaking candidates are also highly preferred.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating and leading weekly ministry programming, including client intake appointments, educational classes, special events, and diaper and essentials distributions.
  • Building relationships with mothers and families and connecting them with appropriate community resources and support services.
  • Managing the day-to-day operations of the Center, including donations, inventory, and office administration, as well as managing the team (Program Manager, Advisory Committee, volunteers, etc).
  • Recruiting, training, and supporting volunteers who assist with ministry programs and services.
  • Representing FOCUS Houston at local Orthodox parishes through informational booths, presentations, and parish engagement opportunities.
  • Cultivating partnerships with Orthodox parishes, community organizations, and supporters to advance the ministry’s mission.
  • Leading local fundraising and community outreach efforts.

As an affiliated ministry of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America, qualified candidates should have knowledge of and a willingness to work within the framework of the Orthodox Church. The ideal candidate will also possess the following experience and/or skill sets:

  • Non-profit leadership experience;
  • Experience managing a budget;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • A passion for service; 
  • A willingness and ability to solicit funds on behalf of the local ministry;
  • An ability to work directly with those served by the ministry on a daily basis
  • An ability to work cross jurisdictionally with local Orthodox parishes to engage volunteers to serve at the center
