Protopsalti/Music Director
Overview:
St. George Greek Orthodox Church on Cape Cod is seeking someone to serve as Cantor/Protopsaltis and also as Music Director for all liturgical services at a parish that does not have a choir. This position is critical to the liturgical and spiritual life of our community, supporting the clergy and parishioners in the appropriate implementation of Byzantine music and glorifying Jesus Christ.
Responsibilities Include:

Chanting Sunday Orthros and Divine Liturgy as well as all major feast days and sacraments (weddings, baptisms, funerals, etc.).

Collaborate with the Proistamenos to provide a robust Liturgical schedule, and a pastoral sensitivity to lead and guide others the Analogion in Glorifying Christ and educating the congregation through the beauty of the hymnology of the Church.

Maintain the musical and liturgical order of services according to the Typikon and ecclesiastical rubrics.

Train and mentor adults and youth in Byzantine chant, promoting the living tradition of the Church.

Organize and lead a Byzantine choir, possibly a youth choir as well.

Work with assistant chanters and new choir members to ensure harmony in all services.

Develop and organize music for liturgies/services, including special occasions and hierarchical visits.
Qualifications:
-
Should be proficient in Byzantine Music (certificate preferred but not required) and comfortable chanting in both Greek and English, have a knowledge of the Typikon and order of Divine Services.

The ideal candidate should be able to teach Byzantine Music to interested individuals in the community with a view to establishing a Byzantine program, to hopefully increase the number of capable cantors or even establish a Byzantine Choir.

Ability to chant fluently in both Greek and English.

Ability to work under the direction of the Parish Priest, work independently and work with the congregation/community.

Compensation:
-
$20,000 - $23,000 Annually (Determined by depth of experience).
