Pastoral Assistant/Youth Program Director

Location: Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity, Charleston, SC
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary Range: $45,000 - $55,000

Position Overview:

The Greek Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity is seeking a compassionate, dynamic, and dedicated individual to serve in a hybrid role as a Pastoral Assistant and Youth Program Director. This full-time position will support the church's pastoral needs while leading and developing the youth programs. The successful candidate will work closely with the clergy and lay leadership to enhance the spiritual and community life of the congregation, with a particular focus on engaging the younger members of the parish.

Key Responsibilities:

Pastoral Assistant Duties:
  • Assist the clergy in performing liturgical services, including preparation for sacraments and services such as Divine Liturgy, baptisms, weddings, and funerals.
  • Provide pastoral care to parishioners, including visitation to the homebound, the elderly, and those in need of spiritual guidance.
  • Help with organizing and facilitating church events, both spiritual and community-oriented, under the direction of the clergy.
  • Assist in managing the daily operations of the church office, including answering calls, scheduling appointments, and handling inquiries.
  • Maintain communication with parish members through newsletters, emails, and other outreach efforts.
  • Serve as a liaison between the clergy and parishioners, promoting a strong, cohesive community.
Youth Program Director Duties:
  • Develop, implement, and lead engaging youth programs that foster spiritual growth, community involvement, and Orthodox Christian values.
  • Lead Sunday School classes, youth group meetings, and other educational activities for children, teens, and young adults.
  • Organize and oversee special events, retreats, and mission trips for the youth group.
  • Mentor and build relationships with youth to encourage their active participation in the life of the church.
  • Coordinate with volunteers and parents to ensure the smooth operation of youth activities and programs.
  • Work with the clergy to integrate Orthodox teachings into youth programs and events.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in theology, religious studies, education, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in ministry, youth programming, or religious education is highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of Orthodox Christian teachings and practices.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Compassionate, approachable, and able to build trust and rapport with youth and adults.
  • Proficiency in using technology for communication and administrative purposes.
  • Ability to lead and inspire youth while fostering a sense of community and belonging.

  • Hybrid work model (in-person presence required for services, youth programs, and community events).
