Grade 5 Homeroom Teacher

A teacher’s role is to help us fulfill our mission to educate children by integrating intellectual, physical, and spiritual learning using the teaching of the Holy Orthodox Church in a manner which will nurture virtues within their souls and reveal the image of God within our students. The teacher is also the cornerstone of our vision - to prepare students to serve the Church and the world.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Maintain an Orthodox Christian learning environment, exemplify our core values and uphold policies and procedures within the classroom and the school through prayer, active listening, compassion, critical thinking and problem solving.
  • Plan, prepare and teach curricula and standards in reading, writing, history and science that support Orthodox Christian education. Knowledgeable of instructional methods and development for students in Grade 5.
  • Foster student learning and growth of all students through differentiation, classroom management and facilitation of intrinsic motivation.
  • Assess student progress and use data to record the progress and foster continued growth.
  • Collaborate effectively and maintain confidentiality with students, parents, faculty and administration.
  • Maintain a growth mindset toward student learning, teaching practice, and professional development as an individual and part of a Christian Professional Learning Community.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and the principal. Work with administration to communicate with students, parents and families.
  • Ability to organize tasks and manage time to meet many and varied deadlines, manage small and whole groups of students in a classroom setting and communicate effectively with students, parents, faculty and the principal, including the ability to discuss sensitive topics.

Education, Experience, and Licensing Requirements

  • Orthodox Christian in good standing.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in education.
  • Teaching credentials, experience, coursework, or other activity in the area of elementary instruction preferred.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current instructional strategies appropriate for students in Grade 5.
