First-Second Grade Teacher

POSITION SUMMARY

Transfiguration Orthodox Academy is an Orthodox Christian K-8 Hybrid School serving families in the Metro Atlanta area. TOA is a very positive and joyful working environment with great collaboration and relationships between administration, faculty, and families. With a vision to educate tomorrow’s Saints, at TOA we aim to study God's vast creation unhurriedly and with care; to love God and neighbor with our entire being; to nurture a sense of wonder and curiosity; and to offer the world back to God in gratitude and service as our primary vocation on this earth.

As a school with a small student body, TOA has an amazing student-teacher ratio, allowing teachers to really get to know their students and develop deep educational connections.

We are looking for a dedicated First-Second Grade Teacher for the 2024-25 Academic Year. Excellent candidates will be committed (Orthodox) Christians with a love for Christ, children, and Orthodox education. Preference will be given to a teacher who can make a two-year commitment. Teachers are all part-time, as we hold in-person class days Tuesdays and Thursdays.

TOA has an active and involved curriculum committee that determines the curriculum resources each year with substantive input from the teachers. The teacher will be expected to plan for the academic year, prepare lesson plans for each class, execute lesson plans, communicate with parents as needed, write and send regular progress reports, and participate in the life of the school as much as possible.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Committed (Orthodox) Christian

PREFERRED

  • (Early Elementary) Teaching Experience (Hybrid/Homeschooling experience preferred but not required)
  • Education Degree

TEACHER COMPENSATION

$35-40 per classroom hour*

*Classroom Hours

The hourly rate for TOA teachers  is the rate the teacher is paid per classroom hour.  This rate assumes the instructor spends a reasonable amount of time outside the classroom in preparation, grading and communication with parents.  While the teacher is not paid for hourly time working outside the classroom, that responsibility has been built into the hourly classroom rate.

*Morning Prayers

Teachers will also be compensated one half of your hourly rate for assisting with students during morning prayers twice per week (total of one hour of compensation per week).

*Hours of Work

A full school day (8:45AM–3:10PM)

*Voluntary (non-paid) Events

Assistance with/attendance at occasional Open Houses, Parent Orientation (1x per year), Faculty Meetings (2x per year), while not required, and therefore not compensated, are strongly recommended. Finally, teacher training prior to the school year will be paid at their agreed upon hourly rate.

*Paid Events

Teachers will be compensated their regular hourly rate for certain designated events throughout the year including (but not limited to) a Meet-the-Teacher event, curriculum meetings, etc.

*1099 Independent Contractor

You will be serving as a 1099 Independent Contractor and not employee of the parish.
