Accounting Manager

Job summary

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America (GOA) is a religious not-for-profit organization. “The mission of the Archdiocese is to proclaim the Gospel of Christ, to teach and spread the Orthodox Christian Faith, to energize, cultivate, and guide the life of the Church in the United States of America according to the Orthodox Christian Faith and Tradition.” 

The Accounting Manager is an integral member of the GOA finance department, assisting management with the day-to-day financial operations, preparation of financial reports, analysis of accounts and preparation of journal entries. The Accounting Manager works under the direct supervision of the Controller and provides support for senior management as may be required from time to time.

Duties and Responsibilities

    • Weekly
      • Revenue accounting
    • Monthly
    • Reconciliation and analysis of accounts and preparation of journal entries.
    • Review of general ledger in Financial Edge NXT for proper account coding and restricted funds accounting
    • Grant accounting and reporting
    • Invoicing of related parties (some invoices may be on a quarterly basis)
    • Work closely with the CFO and Controller on the month-end close.
    • Distribute department budget-to-actuals and grant status reports.
    • Annual/Interim
      • Assist with year-end 1099 reporting.
      • Assist with year-end financial close.
      • Assist with audit schedules and assistance to external auditors.
    • Ad hoc requests

Skills and Specifications

      • Knowledge of the basic accounting principles and practices applicable to not-for-profit organizations
      • Strong organizational skills; ability to handle multiple projects and requests at the same time
      • Detail-oriented and analytical - problem solving and data analysis
      • Technology proficient – use of computers in an MS-DOS environment, advanced command of Excel functions including pivot tables and other Microsoft suite products, awareness of data security and privacy protocols
      • Proven organizational and coordination skills with various internal and external constituents
      • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
      • Detail-oriented and team player.
      • Knowledge of Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT and QuickBooks a plus

Education and Qualifications

      • The Accounting Manager is expected to hold a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an accounting major, minimum of 6+ years of work experience in a similar role at a not-for-profit organization.
      • Certified Public Accountant a plus 

Compensation

      • Salary: $80,000 - 90,000 per annum, plus benefits
