3rd Grade Writing Teacher

Reports to: Head of Early Childhood & Lower School
Status: Salaried/Exempt
Start Date: July 31, 2024
Work Schedule: Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM; additional time as needed for after-school meetings and events.

Responsibilities:

  • Teach and challenge students to understand and utilize the writing process to generate creative and expository writing pieces
  • Inspire great student writing and strong grammar skills through the integration of reading and writing
  • Guide students as they integrate reading, writing, research and technology skills to complete research projects
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, and materials that reflect an understanding of various learning styles
  • Create lesson plans based on sound, research-based methods of instruction
  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of young learners
  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing and tasks
  • Provide effective and supportive feedback to students and parents
  • Implement a classroom management style that aligns with the school’s mission and culture
  • Communicate and collaborate effectively with all stakeholders within the school community
  • Integrate technology into the curriculum to strengthen the teaching/learning process
  • Participate in school events and community service projects
  • Actively engage in a robust assortment of faculty professional development opportunities offered to AOS teachers
  • Fulfill other duties as requested

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, English, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred
  • Minimum three years experience teaching writing/ELA; elementary experience preferred
  • Experience using literacy strategies to build and assess student reading comprehension skills, word knowledge, reading fluency, written comprehension skills, and critical thinking
  • Knowledge of child development
  • Knowledge of research-based practices for effective writing instruction
