Bookkeeper

The bookkeeper is responsible for recording all funds by the Church, maintaining contribution records, deposits, accounts payable, tax payments, and prepare quarterly giving statements and account reconciliation. The successful candidate will be a self-starter who is able to work closely with the staff and Church leadership teams and Ministry Teams. They will have working knowledge of Quickbooks, data entry, banking, payroll and the importance of confidentially. We are looking for an individual who is organized and able to work independently.

Duties and Tasks:

Administer computer records of the parish through data entry and management:

  • Bookkeeping (Quickbooks online)
  • Post financial transactions to the general ledger
  • Operating Budget - Income and Expenses
  • Dedicated Funds - e.g., Memorial Gifts, Special Projects, etc.
  • Payroll preparation and reconcilement
  • Electronic Fund Transfers
  • Parish Database Systems PDS (main non-ledger administrative software)
  • Stewardship - post contributions and pledges of time
  • Communication - distribute email, letters
  • Assist the Parish Council Treasurer in preparing monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial statements, balance sheet with monthly bank and accounts payable reconciliations
  • Assist Stewardship Committee in management of Stewardship program
  • Work with Audit Committee for any reviews - e.g., quarterly, annual
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all financial records and sign a Confidentiality Agreement
  • Work as a team

Working Environment:

  • Office space with access to computer, phone and internet
  • After each working session, all material must be secured and stored
  • Must be able to deal with distractions that can occur (answering calls, assisting visitors, meeting with church leadership teams, Ministry Leaders, etc.)

Evaluation & Compensation:

  • Background Check upon hire
  • Initial performance evaluation after first 90 days, conducted by one or more members of the Parish Council (along with anyone they assign); then annually
  • Annual compensation review by the Parish Administrator and the Parish Council
  • 40 hours/week; Monday-Friday 9-5pm
  • Beginning salary $18-$25/hour, depending on level of education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • 2-3 years Bookkeeping, Non-Profit experience preferred
  • Proficiency with QuickBooks Online
  • Understanding generally accepted Accounting Principles

Experience and Education:

  • Bookkeeping and previous finance or accounting will be considered
  • Previous knowledge of working in a church preferred
