Essential Job Functions

Spiritual Leadership 

  • Teachers are not required to be Orthodox Christians, but are required to be practicing Christians.
  • Respect St. Peter’s Orthodox Christian mission and values and aid students in spiritual formation by exemplifying Christian living, both in and out of the classroom.
  • Be a positive role model for students by supporting the St. Peter’s Statement of Faith.

Lesson Planning, Preparation and Presentation

  • Develop and demonstrate understanding of pedagogical knowledge, skills, and objectives in a classical, Christian school.
  • Implement the approved educational program for 4th grade.
  • With Academic Dean oversight, implement, review, revise, and write curriculum, modifying plans based on student progress and assessment, as needed.
  • Establish clearly articulated standards for student academic performance in coordination with the Academic Dean.

Student Learning

  • Convey information to students in ways that support the classical methodology and are age appropriate.
  • Provide just, reliable, and understandable grading and assessment structures.
  • Schedule and assign instructional activities and assessments with clear goals, providing timely feedback on the results.
  • Assess students’ learning and monitor students' academic progress and personal growth toward stated objectives of instruction through formal and informal testing.
  • Maintain records of students' educational progress using FACTS, as appropriate.

Classroom Management

  • Apply St. Peter’s Classical School policies and procedures in the classroom in an age-appropriate manner.
  • Establish, articulate, and maintain routines, procedures, and standards of student behavior to achieve a classroom climate conducive to learning and respect.
  • Create classroom environment that is neat, well-managed, conducive to learning, and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior.


  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Maintain Christian relationships with parents, other staff members and the community.
  • Communicate proactively with parents through email, notes, phone calls, and conferences to keep them apprised of student progress academically, behaviorally, spiritually, and socially.
  • Support parents by providing academic information, suggesting available educational and social resources, addressing concerns, and answering questions and requests with administrative input and support.
  • Answer all emails and phone calls in a timely fashion and be available for appointments with parents, as needed.


  • Demonstrate commitment to and support of the school through actions, attitude, dress, and attention to duties.
  • Present a consistent and reliable demeanor to students.
  • Collaborate with staff, co-workers, and administration in a cooperative, professional atmosphere.
  • Accept constructive feedback to affect personal and professional growth.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and staff development activities, as required.
  • Comply with the policies in the St. Peter’s Employee Handbook.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Essential Requirements

  • A disciple of Jesus Christ and as such, one who models a love for God through obedience to His Word; such obedience is evidenced through convictions, lifestyle and worldview.
  • A full and unreserved supporter of the School’s Statement of Faith.
  • A teacher of middle and/or upper school students with a minimum of three years teaching experience in an educational or ministerial setting.
  • Strong classroom management.
  • A person who loves students and sees what others may perceive as challenges as opportunities for ministry.
  • A holder of a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent.

  • Understand, interpret, and apply St. Peter’s policies, procedures, and regulations affecting School operations and programs.
  • Make decisions in emergency situations with or without the input of the Administration.
