Saint Katherine HEC Preschool Director Position
The Hellenic Education Center (HEC) is seeking a Preschool Director for its Preschool at St. Katherine’s Greek Orthodox Church in Falls Church, VA.
As part of our community, you’ll create a loving and safe environment where children ages 2 - 5 can develop whole-child skills and knowledge. The Director is responsible for overseeing a small staff of English and Greek language teachers in the implementation of research-based curricula that foster students’ emotional and academic growth. The Director partners with families, clergy, and church ministries to provide a developmentally appropriate education rooted in Greek Orthodox values and traditions. The Preschool Director ensures compliance with licensure regulations.
The Saint Katherine Hellenic Education Center (HEC) was established to consolidate two of our community’s primary educational offerings. The Preschool is an integral part of the Saint Katherine HEC and stands as one of its key pillars. The Preschool seeks to provide a nurturing, family-centric environment that is open to all children and incorporates both religious (Orthodoxy) and bilingual (Greek-English) education into its curriculum. In so doing, it seeks to adopt a dynamic academic and social-emotional program that prepares children for Kindergarten.
Key Duties:
Leading one classroom of children ages 2-5
Developing and leading staff including interviewing and hiring staff and supporting staff in their professional learning and growth
Collaborating with the English/Greek immersion programming to ensure the best immersion programming for all children and families
Collaborating with families to inform programming
Collaborating with clergy to ensure children’s learning in Greek Orthodox values and traditions
Leading in the continued evolution and adoption of the curriculum
Administrative duties and other duties as assigned
Ideal Candidates Will Have:
Associates degree or higher in Early Childhood Education or a related field
Current knowledge of best practices in social-emotional, language, literacy, physical, the arts, cognitive, and mathematics instruction for children ages 2 - 5
A child-centered approach to teaching and the ability to organize a safe and nurturing learning environment
The ability to provide meaningful feedback and professional support to staff
Experience teaching, preferably early learners
Experience with multilingual children and families and/or bilingual education, or the willingness to learn
An open and collaborative approach to working with teachers, families, and other stakeholders
Familiarity with Virginia’s Child Care Regulations, or the willingness to learn
Familiarity with Greek Orthodox values and customs, or the willingness to learn
CPR and First Aid certification, or the willingness to obtain
The ability to communicate effectively in written and oral English
Greek language fluency desired but not required
Educational administrative experience preferred but not required
