Saint John the Baptist Russian Orthodox Church is a parish of the Diocese of the West of the Orthodox Church in America. Founded as a Russian emigree parish in the 1920s, we now serve the broader Orthodox Christian Community in Berkeley and the East Bay. Services are conducted in English and Church Slavonic and we follow the Julian (Old-style) calendar.
Our parish is seeking a choir director, to begin his/her duties as soon as possible. Responsibilities include: conducting the choir during the divine services and holding regular choir rehearsals. Salary is negotiable. We are seeking a someone who genuinely loves the Church's divine services and seeks to contribute to its richness and beauty. The candidate must be comfortable singing in both English and in Church Slavonic. He/She must have choral conducting skills in the Russian tradition and be familiar with the tones of Kievan Chant and the Lvov-Bachmetev Obikhod. He/She must be knowledgeable of the order of the divine services (Vespers, Matins, Liturgy, etc.).
