Part-time Science Instructor

St. John of San Francisco Orthodox Academy is urgently seeking a middle school and high school science teacher to start immediately.

This is a part-time position, consisting of teaching middle school Earth Science, middle school Physical Science, high school Biology 1 and Biology 2. The total number of teaching hours per week is 19 45-minute classes.

About the School:

St. John’s Academy is a small K-12 classical Christian school located in the Outer Richmond district of San Francisco. We are co-ed and college preparatory. Job Objectives:

To inspire and support students to become knowledgeable and wise citizens, prepared to think critically and analytically and to express themselves confidently and effectively

Job Functions:

  • Prepare and implement engaging lessons in Earth Science, Physical Science, and Biology for middle school and high school levels using the St. John’s Mathematics curricula
  • Think creatively and be resourceful in the implementation of labs and science experiments using limited resources
  • Assess student achievement using a variety of assessment tools
  • Provide feedback to students about their progress in a timely, supportive manner
  • Differentiate instruction for students with a variety of modes of learning
  • Communicate progress with students and their parents/guardians

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field
  • Teaching experience strongly preferred
  • Ability to communicate with a variety of stakeholders, including children and adults with limited English

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Work primarily in traditional classroom environment
  • Operate in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines, variety of challenges, and diverse and varied array of contacts
  • May work at a computer or desk for extended period of time
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 30 pounds
