Preschool Teacher - St. Nectarios Day School


The Preschool Teacher position is a part-time position. The Preschool Teacher is responsible for the creation
and implementation of classroom activities in accordance with the daily routines, curriculums, and philosophy of
the St. Nectarios Day School.


  • Graduate of a four year college or university with a major in Early Childhood Education or related field
    preferred OR an Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education OR a High School Diploma and Child
    Development Associate (CDA) Credential with a minimum of four years of experience teaching in a
    reputable preschool program
  • Knowledge of the Illinois Early Learning Standards
  • Must be certified in CPR and First Aid or be willing to attain certification


  • Shall treat each child with dignity and respect
  • Will establish and maintain a positive liaison with parents and the church community
  • Will promote the Day School programs in a positive manner
  • Shall be flexible and resourceful to the program
  • Shall arrive 15 minutes prior to class starting time to set up the classroom and be prepared to begin
    class when children arrive
  • Shall stay 15 minutes after class ends to clean up the classroom so that it is ready for the next class
  • Will work as an active team member with the other Day School staff
  • Will be responsible for classroom activities on assigned teaching day, Day School Director will assign
    teaching day(s)
  • Shall develop and post detailed lesson plans using the Illinois Early Learning Standards
  • Responsible for a monthly classroom job assignment, to be assigned by the Day School Director for the
    rotation of classroom library, toys, cognitive, and sensory play
  • Shall be responsible for a detailed evaluation of the students in the fall, winter, and spring.
  • Shall take attendance on a daily basis
  • Shall attend classroom set up and parent/student orientation at the beginning of the school year
  • Acts as a substitute teacher when needed
  • Responsible for inventory of supplies and materials needed for the classroom
  • Attend one monthly staff meeting to be held by the Day School Director
  • Follow Day School health and safety policies and procedures
  • Inform the Day School Director of any accidents, incidents, safety concerns, maintenance problems, or
    parent complaints
  • Follow formal procedures for accident and incident reports
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Day School Director


  • Requires frequent, standing, bending, sitting, walking, reaching, kneeling
  • Requires occasional lifting of up to 50 lbs.

  • Employee must demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work
  • Employ must be able to function in a sometimes fast and ambiguous environment

  • Employee must possess time management and organization skills to effectively perform the job
  • Employee must have the ability to make judgements with respect to confidential information and
    problem solving
  • Employee must use good safety awareness and judgment in all aspects of the position
  • Must be able to respond to and handle children’s behaviors in a positive appropriate manner
  • Possess Knowledge of early childhood education and child development
  • Must have the ability to plan and create lesson plans which inspire children to exercise proper courtesy,
    social skills, and respect for others
  • Must be patient and compassionate and have the ability to create a warm learning environment
  • Possess the ability to work well with the general public, parents, peers, and church employees
