Preschool Teacher

Mission:

In an Orthodox environment, our diverse bilingual experience program focuses on the spiritual, cognitive, language, social/emotional, and physical development of each child. In our school, children learn through play, planned by adults, important language skills in Greek and in English, social skills, motor coordination, and self-confidence.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Instructional planning in both Greek and English
  • Adhering to the Illinois Early Learning and Developmental Standards, including but not limited to:
    • Providing written lesson plans and preparation in accordance with the objectives of the instructional program
    • Establishing positive learning expectation standards for all pupils
    • Evaluating pupils’ progress and maintain current and accurate records of pupils’ achievements
    • Applying contemporary principles of learning theory and teaching methodology
  • Encouraging student growth in self-discipline and positive self-concept
  • Ensuring fairness in teacher-pupil relationships
  • Exhibiting an understanding and respect for students
  • Initiating appropriate conferences with parents and/or guardians in accordance with school procedures
  • Develop and maintain positive school/community relations by communicating school information, goals, student learning and behavior expectations to parents
  • Counseling pupils on the pupil’s academic progress, attendance, and conduct

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of all student teaching requirements as well as all course work required to obtain an Illinois Early Childhood and/or a K-3 Certificate
  • Self-aware with a strong commitment to continuous learning
  • Unquestioned integrity and a commitment to the vision, mission and values of the Saint George Greek Orthodox Church of Chicago
  • Fluency in the Greek language
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills along with good interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of Greek Orthodox ecclesiology and culture
  • Self- motivated, dependable, flexible, punctual, conscientious, honest and trustworthy
  • Enjoys working with others
  • Caring and nurturing towards children

Level of Work:

This is a Full-Time exempt position.
