St. Barbara's in Sarasota FL is looking for a Facilities Maintenance.
The church Facility Maintenance attends to the many different groundskeeping and custodial duties of the church. The Facility Maintenance reports up to the President of the Parish Council and local clergy.
The Facility Maintenance is responsible for performing the cleaning, maintenance, and other miscellaneous duties as requested to ensure that the St. Barbara building, cultural center and grounds are maintained in a safe, secure, healthy and sanitary manner. The Facility Maintenance is the go-to person for any building needs; works and interacts daily with the church clergy, church staff,, school staff, folk dance staff and other internal committee volunteers and staff.
Clean and maintain the Church along with the pews, Sanctuary, Narthex, Choir loft, Choir prep rooms, Psalti stands, Memorial Room, Chapel, Bathrooms, Administrative Offices.
Keep inventory of church cleaning and other supplies needed to maintain and run the Church. This includes religious items.
Replace light bulbs, some located approximately 30 feet high, which require access to tight crawlspaces.
Ensure that the candle areas are kept in a safe manner and full with sand.
Water and care for plants.
Clean and maintain the community and cultural center, as instructed. Requires lifting and stacking of approximately 160 chairs and 20 tables.
Clean and maintain the Greek school classrooms, kitchen area, administrative and pastoral offices.
Keep storage areas organized, uncluttered for easy access to our various committees who may need to access the space from time to time.
Make repairs to furniture and other items as needed.
Stock bathrooms with supplies, occasionally repair, and keep clean.
Maintain all outdoor areas: trim greenery, weed management, clean outside doors, clean light fixtures and replace bulbs when necessary, remove and discard of all garbage, maintain flower beds and children's playground, pressure clean, paint.
Assist committee and event leaders with their setup and takedown for events.
Oversee any hired contractors.
Set up and take down for different religious holidays including large Christmas tree(s), Nativity Scene, Easter items and other major and minor holidays throughout the year.
Assist and take down for Sunday liturgies, Baptisms, Weddings, Funerals, Memorials and assist the clergy with other such events throughout the year.
Assist with setup and takedown for the Greek Glendi (festival) as instructed.
Assist or lead other duties, as assigned.
At least 5 years work experience in similar duties.
Excellent time management and organization skills.
Ability to repair broken items.
This person must be flexible to work weekends, evenings and on-call for various situations as they arise.
Desire to work and communicate with others in an agreeable manner.
Proactive approach to noticing and repairing items and replacing inventory.
Knowledge of Greek Orthodox customs is preferable but not conditional for employment.
Some knowledge of the Greek language, or another second language is preferred.
Fulfilling the responsibilities of Facility Maintenance is physically demanding. The Facility Maintenance spends much of the time standing, walking, lifting, sweeping, general cleaning and removing trash. Regular set up and take down of items is a regular part of the position.
Must be willing to submit to a background check and drug test.
