Director of Youth Ministries

Summary

The Youth Ministries Director is a full time, professional ministry position under the direct supervision of the Youth Priest and Cathedral Administrator and accountable to the Presiding Priest and the Parish Council. This person will be primarily responsible for youth ministry and fully support the mission and vision statements of the Cathedral:

Mission—Our Mission is to become faithful followers of Christ by accepting and submitting to the Will of our Lord so that we may realize salvation and enter into the Kingdom of God.

Vision—Our vision, with the Grace of God, is to provide a loving and caring Community where all belong to Christ, through worship, sacramental life, everyday spiritual discipline, sanctification, education, witness and fellowship.

Responsibilities

  • Youth Director – work with Advisors to supervise the following youth ministries
    • GOYA
    • HOPE/JOY
    • Toddlers Group
    • Athletics (Basketball, Soccer, Volleyball)
      • Queen City Classic Basketball Tournament
      • Winter Youth Rally Tournament
      • Additional Tournaments
      • Coordinate all league sports activities
    • Altar Boys
    • Boys and Girls Scouts
    • MUST attend St Stephens Camp, Winter Youth Rally, and Hellenic Dance Festival with our Children.
  • Education
    • Church School: Support classes & events, Summer Vacation Bible School
    • Greek School: Participate in youth and community events
  • Administration
    • Manage all communication with youth and their programs (e.g. communication, database, emails, keeping records up to date)
    • Maintain & regularly update Facebook page and engage all other pertinent social media outlets (e.g., Instagram, Snapchat, and YouTube)
    • Help with bulletins (Sunday, monthly) and other communication as needed
  • Pastoral Work – as assigned by the Presiding Priests, particularly the youth priest
    • E.g., make occasional visits to youth when ill or hospitalized
    • Be present in lives of youth – visiting athletic events, awards ceremonies, graduations, etc. 
  • Worship life—Attend services on Sundays and during Holy Week

Working Environment

  • Office space will be provided with access to phone & internet
  • As appropriate, tasks can be done at home
  • Must be able to deal with distractions that can occur (answering calls, assisting visitors)

Qualifications

  • Sincere faith, recognizable commitment and growing knowledge of the content of the Orthodox Tradition
  • Proven experience in youth ministry – such as GOYA advisor, Church School teacher, camp counselor, missionary coordinator
  • Candidate must be able to organize Youth activities throughout the School Year and Summer time
  • Passionate desire to serve our Cathedral and build relationships for the long term
  • Capable of maintaining professional confidentiality
  • Ability to work with staff and volunteer ministry leaders – team player
  • Criminal Background Check (required)

Evaluation, Hours & Compensation

  • Initial performance evaluation after first 180 days, conducted by Presiding Priest that would include input from the Administrator, Parish Council members, and Youth Ministry leaders
    • 2nd Evaluation when 1st year completed
    • Subsequent evaluations – to be performed at the discretion of the Presiding Priest or annually
    • Annual compensation review to be addressed by the Parish Council
  • Hours
    • Hours vary according to the demands of youth ministries and Church schedule throughout the year.
    • Expect hours to peak during certain periods (e.g., Holy Week, Metropolis sponsored youth events, summer camp, and during registration periods for youth ministries, etc.)
  • Beginning compensation
    • Salary range - $40,000-$50,000/year depending on qualifications
    • Vacation (Paid)– 2 weeks/year (Not during major events and ecclesiastical periods)
