The Department of Internet Ministries of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America is looking to hire a full-time Web Application Developer.

Duties and Responsibilities

The web application developer is responsible for the development and maintenance of custom applications and services provided by the Department of Internet Ministries. This person will be responsible for working both independently and with a creative team in developing applications and integrating them into existing systems, such as the Archdiocese’s web content management system.  The web application developer will be responsible for all aspects of the application development process—from design, to coding, to Q/A and working with graphic/UI designers throughout the development process.  The candidate should be ready to work on a wide range of tasks, from very simple to very complex in nature.  The ability to research and execute on new problems is integral in the candidate’s success within this position.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in computer science or related field
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a strong team environment
  • 3-5 years experience in web application development
  • Advanced knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP
  • Advanced knowledge of SQL
  • Advanced knowledge of XML
  • Strong experience with web content management systems
  • Able to communicate project requirements to contractors and coworkers effectively
  • Working knowledge of the Orthodox Church, its hierarchy, and its liturgical cycle

Desirable:

  • Advanced knowledge of Plone and Zope
  • Advanced knowledge of PHP based Content Management Systems
  • Advanced knowledge of JavaScript libraries such as Prototype and JQuery
  • Advanced knowledge of Python, Ruby on Rails, ASP, VBScript
  • Working knowledge of web security
  • Working knowledge of Apache and IIS
  • Working knowledge of Objective-C
  • Working knowledge of Unix/Linux, Mac OS X, and Windows file systems and services
  • Experience with project management fundamentals and design patterns
