Job Title:  Media Director

Job Description:  The Media Director will film all key aspects of both CrossRoad sessions including, but not limited to, participant interaction, classroom lectures, travel highlights, staff programming, chapel services, and participant interviews in order to create a memory DVD for each session reflecting the vision and central themes of CrossRoad. These DVDs will utilize music and enhanced video features for the program’s staff and participants.

Dates:  The Media Director will attend the staff training sessions leading up to the program from June 15-18, 2010.  CrossRoad sessions run from June 19-29 and July 6-16, 2010.  There will be a follow-up meeting of the staff on July 17, 2010 for evaluation, reflection, and recreation.

Lodging & food: The Media Director will be provided free of charge with a room in the Hellenic College/Holy Cross dormitory and meals for the duration of the training week and the CrossRoad program.

Salary: The Media Director will be paid $10 per hour for the staff training sessions the week prior to the program.  Compensation for the filming, editing, and creating of the DVDs will be a salary ranging from $2,250 to $2,750 commensurate with the candidate’s experience. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare for the program through readings on the Orthodox Christian theological vision of vocation
  • Attend and actively participate in staff training sessions
  • Film all aspects of the CrossRoad summer institute
  • Film all classes, lectures, and sermons in their entirety
  • Interview participants throughout each session to capture a sense of what they are learning
  • Edit the footage using music and enhanced video features to create two DVDs (one per session) for participants and staff
  • Create two DVDs (one per session) that both clearly explain the mission and theology of the program and artistically tell the story of the Orthodox high school students learning and living together as an Orthodox community
  • Be an active participant in the program by interacting with, listening to, caring for, and being responsible for the participants of the program

Requirements:

  • Must be a college student or graduate who is an active member of the Orthodox Church
  • Extensive experience with video filming and production
  • At least two years of experience working with teens in an Orthodox Christian setting (GOYA, SOYO, Sunday School, Summer Camp, etc.)

The OVM is comprised of a small, dynamic team dedicated to fulfilling its mission to train, educate and inspire the next generation of leaders for the Orthodox Church. During the academic year the OVM runs programs for the students and faculty on the campus of Hellenic College (www.vocations.hchc.edu); during the summer it runs CrossRoad, a program for high school juniors and seniors from across the U.S. and from all Orthodox jurisdictions (www.crossroad.hchc.edu).

The OVM is currently funded through the generosity of the Lilly Endowment Inc., the Archbishop Iakovos Leadership 100 Endowment Fund, the CrossRoad Parents’ Association and benefactors from the greater Orthodox community.

 

General Position Summary

The Office of Vocation and Ministry (OVM) was established in 2003 when Hellenic College became one of 88 accredited colleges and universities in the United States to receive a prestigious grant from Lilly Endowment Inc. for “the theological exploration of vocation.” The OVM is a busy, productive office with many important programs and initiates occurring simultaneously. The Assistant Director of the Office of Vocation & Ministry will develop and implement vocation programs for Hellenic College students; assist in directing two sessions of CrossRoad, a 10-day Orthodox summer institute for high school students; and participate collaboratively in all OVM initiatives. Full-time responsibilities include 9 am to 5 pm office hours Monday through Friday, approximately four retreat weekends per year, extended hours during the twenty days of CrossRoad, and occasional evening or weekend event work.
