Part-Time Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries

Job Description

St. George Orthodox Church is looking for a part-time (possibly full-time) Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministry. The Director of Youth and Young Adult Ministries is responsible for the implementation, development, and evaluation of all non-liturgical programs and activities of the youth and young adults in the parish. This work will be done under the direction of the Parish Priest, and in coordination with and assistance from a team of advisors to these groups. This person will work collaboratively to create a long term vision for the Youth and Young Adults of St. George.


Job Requirements

Qualifications:

1. Baptized, Orthodox Christian in good standing.
2. Four-year college degree and 2-3 years of youth work experience preferred.
3. Excellent leadership, administrative, time management and interpersonal/communication skills.
4. Background in education and an understanding of child development desirable.
5. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and email and social media communications (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram).
6. Willingness to submit to a background check.

1. Active in the liturgical life of the parish, with conscientious attendance at services of the church and a steward in good standing
2. Ability to teach, model and uphold the teachings of the Orthodox Christian faith.
3. Enjoys spending time with youth, remembering that s/he will be looked up to as a role model

5. A full participant in the life of the parish.

Duties and Responsibilities (including but not limited to):

1. Serve as director of Teen SOYO, building it into an inspiring program for our youth.
2. Recruit, oversee and direct advisors for the following YAYA ministries.
3. Work with the Church School Superintendent to develop, plan, and coordinate all aspects of our parish Church School (including Sunday School and retreats)
4. Oversee, plan and organize youth, young adult and parish wide fellowship events and missionary work.
5. Establish and help plan regular fellowship and/or service opportunities for pre-teens, elementary and preschool children, young adults, and their families.
6. Organize participation in Teen SOYO, OCF, and YAM programs, including area, Diocesan, and Archdiocesan retreats, conventions, etc.
7. Facilitate opportunities for our youth and young adults to engage with other local Orthodox Christians, seeking opportunities for fellowship, service, worship, and the sharing of ideas.
8. Facilitate opportunities for our youth and young adults to engage in discussions of relevant, current issues for spiritual enrichment.
9. Reach out to active, inactive, and prospective young people and their families about Parish opportunities and ministries, as well as personally, especially remembering times of celebration and crisis.
