Saint Sava Academy, the dual-language parochial school of Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Chicago, offering Pre-K through 6th grade education, seeks qualified applicants for the position of:


Job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

             Maintaining a safe learning and working environment for all students, faculty and staff

             Upholding Federal, State & Local laws and regulations

•,            Upholding and enforcing Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral and Saint Sava Academy policies and procedures

             Creating and managing master scheduling of classes, programs, field trips, activities and church services for each school year

             Assessing and enhancing curriculum

             Supervising school office, custodial and lunchroom staff

             Conducting faculty and staff meetings

             Recruiting, interviewing and recommending prospective employees

             Maintaining an inventory system for school books, supplies, materials and equipment

             Managing safe food handling, preparation and distribution in school kitchen and lunchroom

             Maintaining employee and student records and files

             Supervising and evaluating faculty and staff and their instructional methods, plans, goals

             Collaborating with the Board of Trustees president and treasurer in developing the school year budget

             Coordinating various fundraising campaigns with the Parent Network and Board of Trustees

•             Advising the Parent Network organization on Christian fellowship and fundraising activities

             Collaborating with various parish, diocesan, government and community officials and leaders on educational, religious and cultural programming

             Coordinating promotion and marketing of St. Sava Academy within Chicagoland community

             Representing the Academy at various church and community meetings, events and activities

             Ministering to students and parents on academic and social-emotional issues

             Developing and conducting teacher professional development workshops

             Developing and maintaining plans for students with academic and social-emotional difficulties

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:

             Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Education or Education related field

             Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership, Administration or related field and General Administrator’s Certificate (Type 75) is preferred

             Minimum five years teaching experience at the elementary or secondary education level

             Administrative experience within a school system preferred

             Demonstrate a commitment to Orthodox-Christian and dual-language education

             Possess excellent organizational and communication skills and the ability to work well with various Academy and Cathedral constituencies

             Value the importance of modeling “Christian-like” behavior at school, parish and community events

             Bilingual skills in the Serbian and English languages is highly preferred


The Principal position entails a traditional school administrator work year of early August through mid-June with part-time hours (as necessary) during summer months. The Principal shall report to the Rector of the Academy and the appointed Board of Trustees. Compensation and benefits will be determined by the Contract Agreement negotiated between the applicant and the financial officer of Saint Sava Academy.
