Job Description

Summary

The Pastoral Assistant  role offers an expansive opportunity to assist the Presiding Priest in developing the St. Katherine Greek Orthodox Church of Naples, FL to its next level of success as a vibrant, prosperous and spiritually healthy Christian Orthodox community, especially in the three vital areas of Parish Life:  Worship, Service, Discipleship.

Primary Responsibilities

Building the Body of Christ by increasing participation in all parish programs, especially youth and young adult.  Specific duties will be talent and experience driven, with mentoring provided.

Accountability

Reports directly to the Presiding Priest (Fr. Philemon Patitsas).  The person hired to fill this position will receive a 90 day review as part of their ongoing development and placement, with continued quarterly reviews thereafter.

Setting

St. Katherine is located in beautiful Naples, Florida.  The community has undergone multiple phases of growth:  Mission Era (1983-1989); Original Parcel (5.7 acres/1990); Community Center (1993); Sanctuary (2000); Bates Parcel (5.8 acres/2004); Consecration (2011); Mortgage Burning (2014); Corner Parcel (4.5 acres/2016); Membership Growth (2012 to Present).

Since 2012, St. Katherine has added 25 to 30 new families per year, and has grown from 115 to 350 stewards; it has increased to more than 40 ministries, including the Agape Charities (which has strategic relationships with: Habit for Humanity building new homes for the poor and needy; and the Golisano Pediatric Cancer Center.  The Annual Greek Festival draws >15k attendees.

The parish offers many discipleship opportunities: the Sunday School program has more than 150 participating children; the Hellenic Dance program has 65 participants; the GOYA has 26 teens; the Philoptochos has more than 80 members; the Men’s Club ministry has in excess of 100 participants; Young Professionals has in excess of 60 members. 

St. Katherine hosts the nationally acclaimed Christian Rights and Freedom Institute (www.christianrightsandfreedom.org), which offers a 10 event speaker series on religious liberty and human rights, culminating with a national symposium.
