Job Description

Position Description & Qualifications:

Founded in 1891, the Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity is one of the oldest Greek Orthodox congregations in the United States and is the National Cathedral of the United States of America.  In addition to serving its local congregants in New York City, the Cathedral is home to a variety of events of national and international scope.

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity in New York City is seeking a Director of Operations.  The Director of Operations is responsible for the overall operations and maintenance of the Cathedral Complex.  The candidate must demonstrate strong leadership ability, project management skills, and an ability to multitask.

 


Job Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

Office Management:  Manage an office staff of employees, contractors, and volunteers to meet the business needs and ministries of the community.

Facilities Management:  Manage the superintendent and both internal and outsourced personnel to meet the maintenance and capital improvement needs of the complex, including but not limited to vendors, contractors, insurance agents, and city inspectors.

Financial Management:  Plan and monitor office, buildings and grounds, and special event budgets and expenditures, including but not limited to managing the bidding process for certain work, technology maintenance and upgrades, stewardship and donation records, and supply chain.

Special Event Management:  Make arrangements for religious holidays and special events, including but not limited to Christmas, Holy Week and Easter, visits from the Archbishop, and sacraments of the church (i.e., baptisms, weddings, funerals), which may require special permits, security, purchases and/or rentals, and logistics.

Facility Rentals:  Market and manage the process for rental of the ballroom, conference rooms, and other available spaces.

Liaison with the Dean and Board of Trustees:  Report regularly to, and coordinate with, the Dean and Board of Trustees to maintain the integrity, efficiency, economy, and effectiveness of operations at the Cathedral and Cathedral School.

 

Qualifications:

The Directors of Operations must have:

A Bachelor’s or equivalent degree.

Minimum of four (4) years of previous experience in office administration, including two (2) years in a managerial capacity.

Fluency in the English language.  Working knowledge of the Greek language (written and spoken) is desirable.

Familiarity with the practices and traditions of the Greek Orthodox Church.

Documentation of citizenship and eligibility to work in the United States.

Experience in:  personnel management, project management, financial management, and facility and/or construction management.

Exceptional interpersonal skills to interact effectively with church hierarchy, members, employees, volunteers, vendors, contractors, government agencies, and guests.

Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, and Excel).

 

Other Details: 

Compensation:  Negotiable based upon experience.  Health insurance coverage is available.

Work Schedule:  Full-time, Monday through Friday (9:00 am to 5:00 pm), with occasional work required outside of normal hours (evenings and/or weekends) related to weekend services, events, and major religious holidays.
