The St. John of San Francisco Orthodox Academy, North America’s premier, fully-accredited Eastern Orthodox K-12 and college preparatory school, has part-time teaching positions available in the subject areas of Middle and High School History (including an AP course), Middle and High School Math, and classroom assistants.  Qualified and enthusiastic teachers who seek to work in a small school environment which aims to provide the highest quality K-12 education in the Orthodox Christian Community are invited to apply.  No previous teaching experience required.  Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, and all positions remain open until filled.  Please visit the website for application instructions:


About St. John’s Academy:

Accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), the Academy is an Eastern Orthodox Christian, coeducational, non-profit, college-preparatory, full-time day school founded in 1994 for grades K-12.  Located in San Francisco, we attract students from various ethnic and linguistic backgrounds.  We instruct using the classical model of education.  The Academy supports students in both academic achievement and spiritual growth.  In addition to acting as valuable members of their communities, our students consistently excel on standardized tests and in Advanced Placement (AP) courses.


Teaching Opportunities:

Middle and High School History: (4-19 hours/week) Enthusiastic and dedicated teacher sought for grades 6-11.  The teacher chosen for this position must have a demonstrable love for the subject, ability to work with a variety of age groups, and capable of following Academy’s set curriculum.  We are willing to hire for one or more of the available courses.  A strong interest in U.S. history is of benefit, as well as experience teaching an AP History course.


Middle and High School Math: (5-10 hours/week) Capable and personable teacher sought for teaching math to students in both Middle and High Schools.  We are seeking a teacher with a knack for building strong mathematical foundations, and who can inspire students to continue to seek new challenges as they develop.  Applicant must have a thorough knowledge of Algebra and Geometry.  Familiarity with the Saxon Math program is a plus.


Classroom Assistant: (8-12 hours/week)  Flexible, compassionate, and self-driven classroom assistant is sought for our Elementary classrooms.  Depending on applicant, assistant may be required to take on responsibilities including grading, making copies, tutoring students, or overseeing elements of instruction. 


Job Requirements

Necessary Qualifications for All Applicants:

  •  Communicant Orthodox Christian
  • BA or equivalent university degree or significant life/work experience qualifying you for the position
  •  Fluent in English
  • Timely, reliable, professional, and able to commit to a full year of part-time teaching
  •  Currently living in the San Francisco Bay area or within a workable and affordable commute
  • Legally entitled to work in the United States, with no criminal  convictions or other personal record which makes it impossible for you to work with children, and are willing to submit to a routine background check to verify such details
