2012 IOCC INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The deadline for the 2012 Internship Program applications is February 13, 2012.
Since 1998, IOCC has offered an internship program to undergraduates and recent college graduates interested in careers in international relief and development. In 2012 we are investigating the possibility of also placing a student or graduate from an advanced degree program. The IOCC Internship Program provides a unique opportunity to gain firsthand exposure to the operations of an Orthodox Christian international humanitarian aid and development organization.
IOCC Internship Program in 2012
IOCC internships typically require a 10 to 12 week full-time commitment during the months of May - September. There is also a possibility of a longer placement for a graduate from an advanced degree program. IOCC anticipates offering internship opportunities in, but not limited to, the following offices:
A detailed plan for each intern will be developed based on the educational objectives of the intern and the needs of each field office prior to placement. However, the typical responsibilities of an intern will include: participating in field visits to project beneficiaries; working with IOCC staff to continually enhance the effectiveness, impact and implementation progress of ongoing projects; assisting in the production of project reports, success stories and other written communications; and conducting research on various projects and new initiatives.
Selected interns will receive a one-day orientation at IOCC’s Headquarters in Baltimore, Maryland before departing the U.S. for their internship post. In addition, the intern will receive an orientation immediately upon arriving at the field office, familiarizing him/her to the cultural context of the country, programmatic operations and any security-related issues. A dedicated IOCC field staff person will be responsible for overseeing the intern’s work and be his/her supervisor and mentor throughout the internship. Upon the conclusion of the internship, a comprehensive evaluation of the intern will be completed by the intern’s supervisor, along with an evaluation from the intern regarding his/her experience. Airfare, in-country housing and related expenses, in addition to a monthly stipend, will be provided for overseas interns. For US-based interns a stipend will be offered.
Timeline
After the application deadline of February 13, 2012, applications will be reviewed by IOCC. Emphasis will be given to those with relevant experience and skills, and expressed interest in humanitarian work. In March, interviews will be conducted with a narrowed pool of selected applicants. In April, final decisions will be made and intern applicants will be notified. In May, final logistical arrangements for interns will be solidified and interns will come to IOCC’s Headquarters for a one-day orientation before departing for the field office. General internship placements will occur between the months of May – September, with the overseas interns returning to the United States in September.
