Homefront Coordinator (Program Coordinator)

Position Summary and Purpose

The Homefront Coordinator (Program Coordinator) works to facilitate IOCC’s US Program Homefront Parish Preparedness program. This entails developing appropriate program materials, engaging participant parishes, cultivating and managing relationships with parish representatives, providing training, offering on-going parish support, tracking and managing program activities, and equipping parishes to be properly prepared

Country Overview  

IOCC’s US Program delivers services throughout the country through Emergency Preparedness, Response and Recovery projects. IOCC’s work in this sector seeks to enhance the capacity of the Orthodox Church in the United States, and to mobilize it to respond to natural and human-caused disasters.  Through this work, the US Program serves the Orthodox community and society at-large. 

Responsibilities and Essential Functions 

Coordination: Works closely to coordinate parishes and local volunteers, as it pertains to planning, management, and implementation of the Homefront program; regularly visits parishes to engage participant parishes through awareness, training, and continued support. 

Communication and Promotions: Communicates regularly with parish clergy, staff, and volunteers to facilitate engagement of the Homefront program. Writes copies for project-related promotional materials, including online communication and emails, updates to parishes, and letters to clergy/hierarchs, as appropriate; collaborates with the Development and Communications teams on promotional tools for parishes, online campaigns, and digital communications. 

Recruitment: Creates and executes plans to recruit and retain new participant parishes and works with US Country Representative to create additional engagement opportunities. 

Database Management: Processes and manages all parish representative contacts, certifications, and status levels.  

Safety and Security: Works with the IOCC Safety and Security Manager and the US Programs Safety and Security Focal Point to support and inform participant parish safety and security protocols.

Minimally Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Country Specific Technical Sectors Areas: Deep understanding of the assigned country’s technical sectors: Disaster Preparedness, Response, and Recovery
  • Church Knowledge: Familiarity with the Orthodox Church structure and culture or similar faith communities working in this sector.  
  • Training Design, Development and Delivery: Proven ability to train diverse groups. 
  • Proposal/Report Writing and Editing: Proven ability to write and edit concise and compelling proposals and program reports. 
  • Software Applications: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, database and internet applications.  
  • Communication: Advanced oral and written communication skills using different forms of media; ability to translate complex concepts to individuals at all levels; foundational writing and speaking skills using local language and for advanced for English language, especially for training and report writing. 
  • Management and Supervision: Proven ability to lead, manage, and develop parish points of contact administratively and in the field to create a positive work culture. 
  • Organization, Planning and Multi-tasking: Advanced organizational and planning skills; proven ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and multi-task with minimal supervision; proven ability to coordinate activities. 
  • Self-Management and Teamwork: Ability to work independently or as a member of the team, ability to be detailed-oriented and consistently accurate, ability to manage stress effectively in a fast-paced environment, and ability to quickly learn new systems, processes and procedures. 
  • Confidentiality: Proven ability to maintain confidentiality on work-related issues.

Minimally Required EducationExperience, and Training 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; or a combination of education and work experience that yields the minimally required knowledge, skills and abilities 
  • 4-7 years of work experience
  • Work experience with a multinational organization, NGO, faith-based or similar nonprofit organization preferred

Physical Requirements and Working Environment 

  • 25% travel required (estimated to travel at least once per month) 
  • This position may require bending, kneeling, crawling, standing, sitting, lifting up to 20 lbs. and walking for extended periods of time.  
  • Standard office and remote work environment 
  • Weekend and evening work may be required
